Miss Café du Nord from the good old days of rock ‘n’ roll? There’s exciting news then. The historic spot will officially return to being a full-time music venue beginning June 1st, 2017.
The venue will be booked by independent music promoter Noise Pop, who currently books shows at Swedish American Hall, which is situated above the subterranean café and was named a historic landmark in 2015. Complimenting the bookings upstairs, the array of shows to be offered at Café du Nord will include live bands, DJ sets, and comedy nights.
Café du Nord was once a rock venue, hosting loud rock shows and rowdy punk bands, but it closed in January of 2014. The site reopened under new management in June 2015 as a sit-down restaurant with live music more along the lines of jazz, blues, and local acts.
The new Café du Nord will continue to serve delicious food, including several new items and a few old favorites. The music bookings however will resemble those of Café du Nord’s past, including alternative, punk, and rock bands.
As the venue prepares for these live acts to once again entertain its patrons, Café du Nord has undergone some renovations, with more changes to be underway in the coming months. Guests will find that the wall that separated the dining room from the bar area has been removed, and a second, smaller bar has been added near the stage.
Oakland indie rockers Rogue Wave will be performing on June 1st for the official reopening. Purchase tickets for the launch party as well as the café’s other scheduled shows on Swedish American Hall’s website.
