Strathmore, an artistic and cultural center and music venue, has opened another location. AMP by Strathmore, located in North Bethesda, MD, and just a short Metro ride from Washington D.C., has been open for almost two years now. But they’re already making big moves.
In that time, they’ve become a great platform for local and emerging artists to gain exposure in the D.C. area music scene. The venue has introduced more classically-influenced music to a different crowd than previous Strathmore venues. Past highlight performances include Hamilton Leithauser, Jackie Greene, My Brightest Diamond, Julia Holter, and The Felice Brothers.
The intimate venue holds just 225 people, which gives the space a much warmer and more casual feel than the large, airy Music Center concert hall or the more formal affair at The Mansion, two other venues operated by Strathmore.
Another unique draw for AMP is the dining options. Unlike many venues where the dining options are… limited (lukewarm hot dog anyone?), AMP features a menu of fresh, gourmet options furnished by Ridgewells Catering.
The menu features creative sharable small plates, flatbreads, paninis, fresh salads and snacks, such as Spicy Beef Brisket Chili with Cornbread, Korean Spiced “BLT” Sliders, Risotto Bites, Cheesesteak Spring Rolls, and Black-garlic Dry-rubbed Wings. Mouthwatering menu options are paired with a new selection of artisan draft beers, wines by the glass or bottle, and new specialty “carafe” cocktails, including AMP’s take on a Gin & Tonic, Moscow Mule, and Old Fashioned.
AMP by Strathmore is already establishing itself as one of D.C.’s go-to music venues and there are big things coming up for 2017. Here are some highlights from the upcoming slate of shows:
