Welcome to our Sober & Empty series. Explore your favorite venue, or maybe a new one, like you’ve never seen them before: sober and, well, empty.

If you live in San Francisco and regularly frequent concerts or clubs, the name Halcyon should be no stranger to you. A stunning brick and steel beam warehouse from the 1900s right in the heart of the SoMa district, it was converted into a nightclub and event space.

Halcyon packs a big-club feel into an intimate 400-person space with one of a kind transformative lighting due to skylights that can be opened up to create an airy space during the day.

Halcyon

Halcyon boasts one of San Francisco’s only permits for 24-hour parties, making it a nightlife destination for all of the community and visitors. The booking calendar is packed with visiting DJs on the weekend and cabaret nights on Wednesdays. The unique space is conducive to adjusting to an artist’s set mood, based on the state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems.

Owner Gina Milano spoke to SF Station about her ownership take-over and the technology that differentiates Halcyon from the usual nightlife hotspots.

There are nine laser projectors on the walls, and the area above the DJ booth has additional projection screens. We also added next generation pixel tape throughout the space. People go bananas for the wall and the ceiling displays. It’s the star of the show, so to speak. The feel of the space moves from vibe to vibe very easily. It’s been great to have such a malleable space.

Halcyon

Don’t miss the run-through of Halcyon with all the skylights open, just as you’d never pictured them: Lights on, no one’s home, completely empty.

Halcyon SF is located at 314 11th St, San Francisco, CA 94103.
