The year is 1993. Music is still all about knobs, dials, needles, and tape. It’s the analog era. And from that, some pioneers set out to try and make music that sounded like it came from the future. Music that got people moving at the cusp of the digital era.
Swayzak was right there on the cutting edge of the tech house revolution. They began performing and releasing vinyl records and spreading their music by word-of-mouth. In doing so, they cemented a legacy that endures to this day.
By the time they released their debut album Snowboarding in Argentina in 1998, they were already the critical darlings of the tech house scene. Even to this day, while artists who grew up in the digital era lean on the technology they came up with, Swayzak draws on the well of experience they had from the analog era to create their legendary live performances. Their DJ sets are never rehearsed, never pre-recorded, and 100% improvised.
Record label Techfui has invited Swayzak to bring one of their masterful performances to Toronto as part of their curated party series Techfui Invites… The party series also highlights some of the label’s own talent, including Sadeq. Check out one of his mixes below:
Salah Sadeq will also be doing a b2b with VOHS in the main lineup. In the other room, there’ll be a whole other lineup with Toronto native Valerie Tavares‘ Birthday Special, an Adam Husa and Mike Haddad b2b, and then Tavares will retake the stage with fellow Toronto DJ Ella Carrera as part of the duo Carerra & Tavares.
