In case you need another example of an immigrant finding success in the United States, here’s Sharam. Sharam Tayebi came to the US from Iran at age 14 and settled with his family in Washington, DC.
In the ’90s, he met Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia, a fellow Iranian-American, and together they formed the groundbreaking techno house duo Deep Dish. The two were quickly recognized for their quality music and production. They’ve worked with a range of artists, including Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Steve Aoki, Shakira, P Diddy, and Madonna. In fact, one of their collaborations, a remix of Dido’s “Thank You,” garnered the pair a Grammy.
They showed off their versatility and business chops by founding two record labels, an eponymous record label as well as Yoshitoshi Records.
Although the duo split ways in 2006 to pursue solo careers, they have occasionally reunite. In the meantime, Sharam has become quite successful in his own right, away from the Deep Dish moniker, including numerous tours and chart hits.
His most recent album is called Retroactive, and it’s already got fans and newcomers alike grooving to his beats.
In support of the new album, Sharam has been touring. Throughout his career, he’s proven that this Iranian immigrant is one you do not want to miss when he comes to town.
Opening for Sharam is an up-and-comer in the European house music. The German-born Oliver Dollar has already been recognized for his skills in the industry, his song “Pushing On” was so liked by DJs that they wouldn’t stop playing it, leading it to be the second most Shazamed track in Ibiza for 2014 and a staple of that festival season.
