Even though all four original members of The Ramones have passed over the years that does not leave us completely Ramone-less in the world of music. He was not one of the original Ramones, but Richie Ramone he still is a Ramone, and that’s all that matters.
Richie Ramone was the drummer for The Ramones for a handful of years in the 1980s and even wrote a few tunes (“Somebody Put Something In My Drink” for starters). Some say his departure from the band was not entirely clean, but the only thing that matters is that he is still active, still making music, and still playing live shows.
After his departure, he had not surfaced for what seemed like a while, although it was most likely due to a lack of production as opposed to a lack of actually playing music.
Richie Ramone finally released his first solo album, Entitled, in 2013, bringing a bit of a harder, less punk sound than most of us would have expected. The Ramones aura is wading in the background, but Richie certainly takes that sound in his own direction.
You can see Richie ripping it up on the drums, on the mic, and in some fast cars in his music video for the title track. It’s nice to see his attitude remains similar to what The Ramones brought on the stage in ’77.
As for his live shows, Richie Ramone is currently on a tour, playing plenty of upcoming shows across the southern US.
Richie Ramone is not someone you should see just because he is a Ramone, but because he is still an active musician writing original music.
