The other day, someone asked me what I was doing on September 2nd and if I was free. I told him, “Of course I’m free.” Because, I was probably was going to be free. I mean, I don’t plan that far ahead. I barely know what I’m eating for dinner tonight, much less three months into the future. So by default, that day is “free.”

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably still figuring out what to do on Independence Day weekend as well. If you’re in New York, let me ease that burden from your mind. Because I’ve got a full schedule of events for the whole weekend.

Marcel Dettmann by © Flavien Prioreau, 2015

First up, we have the pre-party and I am objectively declaring it the best one. I mean, isn’t the pre-party really where it’s at anyways? The party that makes this a pre is a HYTE party that we’ll get to (I mean, I told you there was a whole weekend of events), but this pre-party is rocking with Marcel Dettmann at Schimanski all night, from open to close. How does he do it? I don’t know, but you don’t have to worry about it. I’m pretty sure he’s allowed to have bathroom breaks…

Get your lifejackets and shorts because we’re going on a boat. To Governors Island to be more specific. HYTE is throwing a party on New York’s best summer island with all their most talented artist. The lineup across two stages is Chris Liebing & Speedy J, Jackmaster, Julia Govor, Loco Dice, Maceo Plex, Marcel Dettmann (didn’t we see him already? His DJ stamina must be incredible), Matrixxman, Maya Jane Coles, Peggy Gou, Richie Hawtin, and Rødhåd. It’s basically like a one-day electronic music festival.

Body & Soul party

Monday? Yes, Monday. Nobody’s going to be at work anyways since you’ll have Tuesday off (Disclaimer: I am not explicitly telling you to skip work on Monday). Why not turn yourself around and head on back to Governors Island for Body & Soul, one of New York’s best dance parties, brought outdoors and under the sun. With a lineup that includes François Kevorkian, Danny Krivit, and more, it’s totally worth calling in sick (I mean, using a vacation day…).
