The Fourth of July falls on a Tuesday this year, and while some of us will have Monday off and others won’t, there’s no reason that your festivities need to feel contracted. Yes, even if you fall into the gap of those who will be partying all weekend, dragging yourself to work on Monday, and then partying all Tuesday.

Thursday, 6/29
Who says we need to wait till Friday? I didn’t hear that, not me, no sir. Check out the boppy bass lord Slushii at Liv Miami. Chronically compared to Marshmello, his tracks are playful and upbeat, and when the bass drops, you feel like you’re on a sugar-coated supersonic rollercoaster through Candyland, no lie. His latest single, “Luv U Need U,” debuted a couple weeks ago; have a taste.
Friday, 6/30
Here’s where it gets serious, folks.
At 10 PM, we’ve got the Dirtybird Records product, Tim Green at Do Not Sit on the Furniture, my personal favorite Miami haunt. Tim makes it a point to stop in Miami every six months or so, but with a continually evolving and yet somehow classic, almost nostalgic, tech-house sound, he always brings something new to the Magic City.
At the other end of the spectrum, self-proclaimed bubblegum traplord Lil Yachty & Irie hit Liv Miami to kick off the weekend. LIV is going to be closing for renovations soon, so if you haven’t yet seen an incredibly high-energy teenager take the stage there, this will be your last chance for a few months. Trap might be your style, it might not be, but Lil Yachty’s shows are fun AF and you can’t take that away from him. Don’t even try.
Elsewhere on the beach, you can find Steve Aoki doing it up at Story Nightclub. Does he need an introduction at this point? If you haven’t seen Steve Aoki at least once, FFS, do it. He might be a self-replicating meme at this point, but he’s one of the pioneers of EDM, signing and releasing music by other forerunners of the genre like MSTRKRFT, Felix Cartal, Bloc Party, and more. He’s been doing the damn thing for 20 years and shows absolutely no signs of flagging. Bonus points: he was born right here in Miami.
Saturday, 7/1
Get it going with a 7 PM performance by Mandar at Electric Pickle. Mandar is a three-piece of DJs, which is confusing at first but give it a minute. Comprised of three legitimate solo house producers in their own right – Lazare Hoche, S.A.M. and Malin Genie – this trio dropped their first collaborative album, a five-disc vinyl bundle self-titled Mandar, in the fall of 2016, much to the delight of house-heads everywhere.
That should give you plenty of time to head over to Do Not Sit for Öona Dahl, a technicolor pixie who breathes fairy dust on her house tracks. Where she takes the inspiration for her name should reveal a lot about the direction and intention of her artistic expression: “Öona Dahl; a channel to enter other dimensions of colored refracted dreams and sound waves guided by the spirit she.”
Or if you’re looking for something with a little more bite, we’ve got the gritty electro banger Flosstradamus at Ora Nightclub as well. Once a duo, Josh Young and Curt Cameruci were a potent force in the trap space from its nascency, gathering acclaim and attention after a 2007 tour with Chromeo.
When the pair split up in 2016, Cameruci won the rights to continue using the stage name Flosstradamus in the divorce (kidding, not how it happened) and has continued to tour and release music as the lone bearer of the moniker. Sunday, 7/2
The hat-trick of hard-hitting shows belongs to Do Not Sit who will host Behrouz and Holmar (of Thugfucker) for a Sunday night set of tech-house dance-pants. Behrouz is, to borrow the phrase, a “DJ’s DJ” and his sets capture that resplendent quality of arcing through a full narrative, a journey through sound and shared space.
Monday, 7/3
You still there? Because we’re still here.
Monday night is here to get you right with a set by Spanish tribal techno-house vanguards Chus & Ceballos at Heart Nightclub. The most celebrated, legit DJ/producer pair out of Spain, these two have been plying their trade since Y2K was a thing people were worried about, and the veteran experience is evident in their sets, which can breach several hours without a flag in energy or versatility. In addition to weaving house and techno together in a way that augments and celebrates both, they’ve pioneered an underground movement they call “Iberican Sound.”
And that’s our gift to you, Miami. An existential crisis of choice. Unless… you’re going to try to hit them all? But even that is a choice. An awesome one. Happy Fourth!
