Every one of these albums deserves a right swipe or if you’re from the pre-Tinder days, I would court these records. Take them on a nice dinner, maybe hold hands, I don’t know, we’d have to see how it all went…
New Music Friday is getting weirder every week, let’s just get into the music. <3
Bottin – I have What I Gave
In a word, hypnotizing. The way he layers tracks should be studied at DJ school. With samples, synths, and a few incredible guest singers, the Italian producer makes something that transports you to another realm. The technical skills on this alone should be reason to check it out.
Favorite tracks: “It’s Ok & L’Amore”
The Darkness – Pinewood Smile
These guys were born in the wrong generation. Fans of classic rock are going to love everything about this album. It’s self-aware, big, loud, and a good time all around. If you’re looking for the perfect mix of Thin Lizzy, Queen, and AC/DC, this is your album. And, listen to Solid Gold first, if you want a lil’ giggle.
Favorite tracks: “Sold Gold & All the Pretty Girls”
August Burns Red – Phantom Anthem
Where. Have. You. Been. All. My. Life? This album is incredible. If you’re down with metalcore, you’re going to eat this one up. Some of the most incredible musicianship out there today with enough rage to get any crowd losing their mind in the pit. These guys have been around since 2003, and you can hear it in how tight the unit is. It’s going to be hard to pick a favorite track…
Favorite tracks: “King of Sorrow & Lifeline”
The Black Dahlia Murder – Nightbringers
With a name like Black Dahlia Murder, you know that you’re not going to get some fru fru sound. This is some of the crunchiest, brutal death metal in the world. This record is a thirty three minute assault on your eardrums. If you’re looking for something to scare the neighbors with, or just enjoy an earthquake in your brain, this is your jam.
Favorite tracks: “As Good as Dead & Of God and Serpent, Of Spectre and Snake”
TOKiMONSTA – Lune Rouge
The rabbit monster is back with a hypnotizing new record. Her third full-length is an incredible mix of sounds, sounding almost like a mixtape than an album by one person. Most likely from the multiple collaborations on it. What most impressive about it though is that it’s her first foray into music after having brain surgery and literally learning how to talk, walk, and make music again. Bravo.
Favorite tracks: “Rouge & We Love”
Lil Pump – Lil Pump
The self-titled debut album is out and it’s hitting hard. Fifteen tracks including two of his previously bigger hits D Rose and Gucci Gang. It’s also got some collaborations with a few big names like Lil Yachty, Gucci Mane, and 2 Chainz. Most of the songs hover around two minutes and they’re jam packed.
Favorite tracks: “Pinky Ring & Whitney”
Kelela – Take Me Apart
Can an album be a powerful R&B with some of the most beautiful vocals around AND have dance tracks that’ll get any club moving? Kelela says, YUP. With a mix of experimental electronic, R&B, and a mix of the emotions from love and loss, and you’ve got Take Me Apart. An album that you can fall in love to and with.
Favorite tracks: “Bluff & Waitin”
