While big releases this week including Offset and Lil Pump make this New Music Friday seem destined for Hip Hop greatness, we’ve got some news for you: electronic artists seem to have stolen the show.
Up and comers as well as superstar comebacks have all released EPs and mixtapes for your listening this week.
Manila Killa – 1993
This is the highly anticipated debut solo EP from Manila Killa, electronic producer known for his melodic beats and as his former time as one half of Hotel Garuda. 1993 coincides with a headlining North American tour.
Haywyre – Panorama: Form!
This album is the follow up to his previous, Panorama: Discovery. Haywyre’s focus seems to be more on performance and vocals on this EP, but his signature funky production style is still the one fans know and love.
Gunna – Drip or Drown 2
The album from this Young Thug protege is classic Atlanta bred rap. After several successful underground mixtapes and major features, Drip or Drown 2 will hopefully solidify Gunna’s voice as his own.
Kehlani – While We Wait
Grammy-nominated R&B artist Kehlani finally released her first work since her debut album in 2017. While We wait is aptly named as this is an interim mixtape while we wait for her second studio album, but is packed with features including Ty Dolla $ign and 6LACK.
Feed Me – High Street Creeps
Looking for hardhitting electronic music? Look no further. Feed Me has released High Street Creeps after six years in the making, and it ranges all styles of electronic. While it might be a little bit more pop influenced than previous works, it’s just as iconic as his last album.
Rusko – MEGARAD!
Rusko’s new EP offers more than offers more than the high energy dubstep you know him for, as this showcases his multi-genre talent. “‘Open The Feeling’ distinctly hints at the 2-step garage from which dubstep evolved, and ‘Hardcore Raven’ offers up a fresh take on drum and bass.”
Modeselektor – Who Else
It’s been eight years since German electronic duo Modeselektor’s last release, and it’s about time. Who Else is a short electronic album in tune with the times, “pulsing with a sense of speed and urgency.”
