Hello, New Music Friday! This week’s smaller releases are absolutely dominated by female artists and funky R&B. How could anyone resist?!

Here’s a few albums you should check out this week.

LÉON – LÉON

Swedish soul-pop single LÉON has released a self titled album, with husky pop hits. Her striking vocals pair well with uplifting melodies throughout the entire album.

Pond – Tasmania

Australian psych rockers of Pond have really honed in on their sound. This album is filled with psychedelia and funk-driven basslines, with hints of pop sprinkled throughout.

XYLØ – pretty sad

XYLØ graces this synth pop album with very bubbly melodies paired with heavier lyrics. Many know her from her feature on The Chainsmoker’s hit Setting Fires, and this EP is a good introduction to see her sound independently.

Solange – When I Get Home

Solange’s newest album When I Get Home is a great, airy take on neo soul while exploring psychedelic, funky R&B. This album is completely different than her majority rap album A Seat At The Table, but deserves your attention none the less.

Shy Girls – Bird On The Wing

While you may thing Sky Girls is a band, it is in fact just one solo Portland native, crooning a dark and distinctly alternative R&B. Listen to the album and feel the funk in a new way.
