NMF

I’m gonna let you in on a little secret. Friday is my favorite day of the week. It’s the day that you close out your outstanding work, you prepare for two days of rest and relaxation, and… well, obviously, New Music Friday!

This week we’ve got six new albums for your ears, enjoy!

Montero – Performer

This is the ’60s/’70s feel good psychedelia that you’re looking for. From the cover alone, you know you’re getting into something that’s, at the least, ’60s inspired, but then you hear it and get transported. There’s not a bad track on it and if you’re looking for something to just chill out and relax to, this will treat you so right.
Favorite tracks: “Tokin’ the Night Away” & “Running Race”

Bat Fangs – Bat Fangs

Let’s head directly into the ’80s with this one. This album is the debut from Betsy Wright and Laura King and when you listen to it, you can’t help but wonder how only two people make this much noise. It’s a party record, through and through, and it’ll get you reminiscing about the good ol’ days of hard rock.
Favorite tracks: “Turn It Up” & “Wolfbite”

Sunwatchers – II

This one is hard to nail down. It’s six songs, and 37 minutes of experimental, psychedelic, jam band-y goodness with a groovy backbone. And as a warning, there’s a jazz saxophone that will change your life in it. At the end of the day, this isn’t your typical radio tunes, but it’s an incredible foray out of the comfort zone and into something incredible.
Favorite tracks: “The Works” & “Nose Beers”

Dead! – The Golden Age of Not Even Trying

If this is what the golden age of ‘not even trying’ sounds like, sign me up. The twelve songs on the record all hover around the three-minute mark and with a mix of poppy punk and straight up rock ‘n’ roll, it’s one of my favorite releases of the week, with arguably the best band name and album name. If you’re looking to chill out, this isn’t your album. Get ready to let loose.
Favorite tracks: “Enough Enough Enough” & “The Golden Age of Not Even Trying”

Rhye – Blood

This album could be considered alt-R&B, or you could just call it gorgeous. Velvety smooth vocals float above a cool funk background. This is THE record to put on at a fancy dinner party or date night. It’s beautiful, it’s calming, and it’s got just enough of a beat to slow dance to.
Favorite tracks: “Feel Your Weight” & “Phoenix”

BONUS EP: MISSIO – Skeletons: Part 2

This duo out of Texas knows how to make a sexy song. The record is a mix of chillwave, electronic, and vocals that grab onto every emotion in you, and never let go. If you’re looking for a piano-backed album that’ll pull at your heart strings, this is it. My only wish was that it were longer than 20 minutes.
Favorite track: “Everybody Gets High”

See ya in a week!
