It has been an incredible year of new music Fridays! But all good things must eventually come to an end. This will be my last New Music Friday… until next year.

Let’s do this with two albums, two EPs, and two singles, shall we?

Hack the Mainframe – Disorders of Consciousness

When I first put this album on, I thought I was getting into a metalcore album. The first song, R.E.M Sleep has an opening that feels super metal, but that’s where it stops. This is one of the best punk albums of the year. If you were a fan of ’90s punk rock, a la Bad Religion, NOFX, MXPX, and the like, you’re going to love this album. I can’t say enough good things about this one.
Favorite tracks: “Anxiety” & “Intoxication”

Futuristic – Blessings

Dayyyuummmmm. The first song on this album shows just how much skill he’s got on the mic. Straight up hard hitting, emotionally influenced, raw rap. There are a bunch of stand out tracks too, definitely the first one, “Life,” “Talk” is incredible, and “Epiphany” featuring NF is surprisingly gentle while still coming at you hard and fast.
Favorite tracks: “Life” & “Talk”

BONUS EPS:

Daniel Munoz – Until Next Time

Here’s a new one on the scene that some people are calling the “Latino Justin Bieber.” I can definitely hear and see the similarities, but Daniel’s got his own thing going for him and being so young is going to let him grow into the big R&B, soul, pop voice that he’s got. Looking forward to what comes next.
Favorite track: “Part II”

The Prototypes – Get Hype Remixed EP Part 2

Three tracks and thirteen minutes that will get you uncontrollably pumped up. Even writing this right now I’m bouncing around my desk. That first track, “Electric” starts off slow, but don’t worry, you’re about to lose your mind, lucky it’s the “Mind Vortex Remix.” Song two is super heavy and beefy. And number three has an oddly Hackers (the movie) vibe that I love.
Favorite track: “Electric – Mind Vortex Remix”

BONUS SINGLES:

Zeds Dead & Jauz – Lights Go Down

Three minutes and thirty three seconds of pure energy that I’m pretty sure is a love story. And honestly, I didn’t think that there were any kind of love stories in drum n’ bass, so it’s an incredible trip. Hopefully we see more collaborations from these two in 2018.

Jeremy Fisher – This Is the Good Life
This is the perfect ending to 2017. No matter what’s going on, we can put on this new song by Jeremy Fisher and just smile. For obvious similarities, it reminds me of “Best Day of my Life” by American Authors, but calmer and more soothing. If you put it on at 11:56:38PM on New Year’s Eve, it’ll end right at midnight to kick off 2018 however you’d like.

See you in the new year! <3
