Wheeled Wednesdays

As we reported earlier in June, there are a lot more bike pathways coming to Toronto over the next few years. But what about the actual bikes themselves? If you don’t have the room for a bike or just don’t want to take the time following up on the upkeep of one, how do you participate?

Easy!

Wheeled Wednesdays free bike share

On Wednesdays in July, users will be able to take the city’s Bike Share bikes out in 30 minute increments at a time for FREE. If you’re going somewhere further than 30 minutes you’ll have to switch out your bike for a new one or pay a fee to continue riding.

The city owned bike service is going for a massive goal in 2017; ONE MILLION RIDES!

Toronto Mayor John Tory stated:

“This is about thanking Toronto residents for their support of the bike share program so far and getting more Torontonians to discover how fun it can be to cycle around the city and use that as a way to get around. Riding a bike is part of a healthy and active lifestyle, but it is also very much a part of the future of transportation in the city.”

In the past four years, since the ride service was taken over by the Toronto Parking Authority, ridership has grown in a big way, but they want to push it even further. The service currently has 2,000 bikes spread out across 200 stations, which you can find on their trusty map here or quickly with the map below!

So the big question is, will you be biking through the streets of Toronto in July? On Wednesdays? On your way to a show?
