It was a sad day this past summer when one of San Francisco’s electronic music meccas played its final show as Ruby Skye. However, the closure came with the promise of new owners, a renovation, and eventually a new venue.

Since then, music industry veteran Scott Murphy and local restaurateur Nate Valentine, along with two other partners, all natives of San Francisco, have signed up to back the new venture that will be called August Hall.
The historic venue, originally built in 1911, is getting a facelift on the 1,000 person main space as well as a whole new adjoining restaurant and bar that will be called Fifth Arrow. The area is named for a bowling term, which will be fitting since the space will include three bowling lanes, just in case the music upstairs wasn’t enough of an attraction.
“Our goal is to highlight the history and not mask it,” Valentine told Billboard. “We had a long process with historic preservation here in San Francisco to preserve the unique elements of this building and bring them to the forefront as opposed to covering them up.”
While there is no specific target date set for the opening, it’s promised to be sometime in early 2018. In the meantime, we can eagerly speculate as to what big acts August Hall will have for the opening.
