Conscious Alliance is a hunger relief program based out of Boulder, Colorado that provides nationwide food collection and hunger awareness programming, in partnership with numerous concerts and festivals.
How Conscious Alliance Collected 1.6 Million Pounds of Food with Concert Art
Attendees at participating concerts and festivals who contribute to a Conscious Alliance food drive receive limited edition poster artwork, most often supplied by the headlining artist.
The Alliance covers printing costs, and distributes the poster to those who donate non-perishable goods to the food drive. This simple core concept has been the driving force behind the effort that has thus far brought 1.5 million meals to those in need.
The likes of Vertex, Bonnaroo, Electric Forest have supported and partnered with the Alliance in the past, as well as The String Cheese Incident, STS9, Bassnectar and scores more top-tier artists.
Humble Beginnings on the UC Boulder Campus
Founder Justin Baker brought the concept to fruition in 2002 while a college student and Madison House intern. Compelled by the abject poverty and neglect faced by many economically secluded Native American Reservations in the west, Baker mobilized his fellow students at UC Boulder to donate thousands of pounds of food to his nascent hunger relief effort.
Recognizing the opportunity of festivals, concerts, and other music events, Baker expanded Conscious Alliance beyond the campus grounds into a national hunger relief effort that has provided desperately needed meals to thousands.
Since then the program has graduated into a non-profit and collected over 1.6 millions pounds of food, with local food pantries and isolated Native American Reservations benefitting, among others, from the charity of festival and concert attendees.
