Remember when we were talking about how Austin’s City Council was making an effort to help the music and nightlife industry? They were calling it the “Music and Creative Ecosystem Omnibus Resolution.”
As part of that resolution, steps were created to move forward in supporting local music venues and musicians.
- Grow and enhance – short-term/immediate recommendations.
- Sustain and grow – medium-term recommendations for action.
- Build the music and creative ecosystem – long-term recommendations.
Part of the short-term plan was to create a pilot program that allowed live music hours to be extended in the Red River area for an hour longer than previously allowed while the city council vigorously monitored sound levels to ensure there were no neighborhood disturbances.
The trial period of an extra hour of live music (allowed until 1 AM on weekends now) aimed to see “how much extra hours help struggling music venues or affect neighbors who complain about noise.”
As of last week, the pilot program was unanimously granted an extension of at least six months as a case study for the city as a whole. This indicates the initial stages of saving the Live Music Capital of the World is, well, working!
