May may have just started, but it already feels like there are way too many shows to see. Let me help you on track to close out the rest of May with one, two, or all seven of these shows! Some you may be familiar with, but hopefully there are a few that’ll surprise you!
May 12th | The Polish Ambassador at Crystal Ballroom
Looking for hip-hop? Electronic? ’80s club? B-boy bangers? Remixes? You’ve found your ambassador… Since 2005, David Sugalski has been jumping genres and creating some of the funnest (Editors Note: … funnest) electronic ever. He also wears an incredible neon jumpsuit when he performs.
May 14th | Moon Hooch at Doug Fir Lounge
Brooklyn-based band is alllllll about the positive energy. On their site it says, “If any band is a poster child for turning the power of positive thoughts and intention into reality, it’s the explosive horn-and-percussion trio Moon Hooch.” Get ready to grooooooove!
May 19th | ALVVAYS at Wonder Ballroom
This Canadian indie pop/rock band has been around since 2011 and their first album from 2014 debuted at number one in the US college charts. There are whispers of a new album hitting in 2017. Cross your fingers.
May 21st | Blue October at Roseland Theater
You may remember the big one from these guys back in 2006, Hate Me, but they’re back and released a new album in April of last year. Check out “Home,” which was on the Top 40 for six months, above.
May 23rd | Smino at Roseland Theater – Peter’s Room
This is some poetry infused vocals filled with emotion, melodic soul, hip-hop, and rap. This up-and-comer breaks through genres for your enjoyment. His newest release came out in March.
May 25th | Modest Mouse at Cuthbert Amphitheater
If anyone knows about Modest Mouse, it’s Oregon. Catch your local alternative rock boys at the end of the month if you didn’t already know they were coming home!
May 28th | Catfish and the Bottlemen at Roseland Theater
The first time I saw these guys it was 2014 and the lead singer came out on stage and said, “Hey, we’re from England, and we’re about to be really big here in the States.” I almost walked away until I heard the pipes on Van McCann. Less than two years later they’d hit platinum status, and the British rock band entered our hearts forever.
