There are very few terms out there that are more devoid of meaning than “American restaurant.” What does that even mean anymore? That’s not to say that there aren’t great restaurants that have defaulted to describing their food as “American.” But they can do better.
Let’s say you were walking (or driving… it’s walkable in the sense that you can literally walk along it, but it’s not super walkable) along White Oak Drive in Houston and you wanted to find something to eat. Don’t just settle for bar food. Houston is a wonderfully diverse city and its food scene reflects that. Bring your taste buds on a magical wonderland trip through the stars.
Pho Binh Heights
The newest location of this local Vietnamese destination is right here in the Heights. Serving up all your Vietnamese favorites including spring rolls, banh mi, and, of course, pho. Try any of the soups with a side of the bone marrow, it will not disappoint. Most Vietnamese food is low key pretty healthy if that matters to you.

Tacos A Go Go
This taco shop got its start in 2006, entering the crucible that is the Houston’s Tex Mex taqueria scene. However, the spot quickly became a standout on the strength of their food and the size of their breakfast tacos. Tacos are the go to here, but don’t miss some other features like the quesadillas and the tamales.
