Meso Maya Comida Y Copas
Meso Maya is a great go-to for happy hour because they have a wide range of margaritas (think avocado, cucumber, mango, serrano berry, the possibilities are endless…) and a ton of other options for those not so stoked on tequila. Looking for an appetizer? Get the queso fundido and the queso poblano because you can never have enough cheese. There’s a couple locations, but the one off of McKinney is the flagship, and you can’t go wrong with the biggest location.

Mesero
Queso Mesero is a must-have for the table. Will I continue to recommend quesos throughout every Tex-Mex piece ever? You bet. This place has more of a traditional twist but offers an “American” portion of the menu for your friends who only want the margaritas and aren’t a huge fan of enchiladas. Anything with the brisket is a fan favorite.

Velvet Taco
This is my go-to every time I’m home. Velvet Taco is way more casual than the previous places I’ve listed as it’s order and pick-up, but it can’t be missed. They have a less extensive bar but incredible frozen margaritas and a modern twist on tacos. If you have a vegetarian in your group (like me!), this is the place you should go. I could eat the fried paneer taco every day for the rest of my life and be content.

Taqueria La Ventana
Looking for a casual, seated Tex-Mex spot with an outdoor patio? Then for you, I saved the best for last. Taqueria La Ventana offers authentic Mexico City street fare with a limited beer menu but a fully stocked bar. Breakfast tacos are served all day. Sunset, outdoor patio, tacos, and drinks? Sign me up.
