They’re young and having fun… Oh, and they’re releasing a new album later this summer.
The Districts are from Lititz, PA.
For those of you that do not know where that is (so, everyone), it’s west of Philadelphia, and somewhat close to Hershey, PA (yes, like the chocolate). Not the best description for directions, but good enough for the sake of this post.
With their third full length album, Popular Manipulations set for release in August, The Districts will release their third album in four years — a refreshing thing to see in the current trend of bi-yearly (at best) album releases for artists.
Why does it matter where they’re from?
Well, maybe it’s just my origin coast bias speaking, but there’s something cool that happens with a lot of East Coast indie rock bands. Living in the region seems to allow bands to find some weird versatile pocket.
It’s the ability to be easy-going, yet gritty at the same time. It’s the ability to pepper a hard-nosed attitude on top of soft-toned music.
If you don’t understand what I mean, that’s totally understandable. If you were to see The Districts live, however, I think you would begin to understand where I’m coming from.
Check out their latest release, “If Before I Wake” from their forthcoming album:
The beauty of a band like The Districts is not just the ability to write a song like “If Before I Wake,” but the ability to perform that and many other songs with a much deeper and satisfying energy.
The good news for Houstonians is that The Districts are coming to town. They’re currently running through the familiar grounds of Philly and New York, but will start next week off with a visit to Houston.
