LA native Pearl Charles, a songstress and musician who started her career at the ripe age of 18 as one half of Americana duo – The Driftwood Singers, is no stranger to the music scene. After her time with The Driftwood Singers, Charles continued on her musical path as a drummer and singer of a popular garage-pop band called The Blank Tapes.

Throughout her career, Charles worked with a handful of artists such as Jonathan Wilson, Stephen McBean of Black Mountain, Farmer Dave Scher of Beachwood Sparks, and Johnathan Rice. Charles has even supported an array of popular artists while touring internationally, including John Father MistyMatt Costa, Thee Oh Sees, Kim Deal, The Growlers, Allah Las and Mystic Braves and more.

In addition to her many accomplishments, Charles also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music at the California Institute of the Arts. Her early successes showcase her innate talents and inevitable decision to pursue a solo career. In 2015, Charles released a 6 song debut EP on Burger Records featuring a spectrum of psych-rock, blues-rock, and Americana inspired tracks.

With a soft, sultry, and seductive voice, Pearl’s vocal style can be compared to the likes of Lana Del Rey and Lissie. Tess Duncan’s Pitchfork review gives the best summary of what to anticipate on the EP,

“Charles’ record takes cues from movements all over the American map. There are hints of Southern folk and alt-country, Midwest Americana, and West Coast acid rock.”

As she climbs her way to the top, Pearl Charles sets the tone with her first ever EP. With so much experience under her belt and a knack for the natural arts, one can only wonder what direction she will go with on her next project, which could quite possibly be a new album (we hope).

Catch Pearl on her upcoming gig at The Echo on January 12th, 2017 at 8:30pm.
