Manchester native, Bipolar Sunshine has had quite the year so far. From massive collaborations with DJ Snake and Gryffin to going on tour with The Knocks, he’s come a long way as artist and performer since his debut in 2013. His most recent single “Are You Happy” showcases just how much he has grown as a songwriter and we’re excited to see what else he has in store for us this year.

Four Over Four asked Bipolar Sunshine a few questions about his recent move to the US and why he’s got such cool fashion taste.

Right off the bat, Man. City or Man. United?

Only one team in Manchester and that’s City.

You’ve recently moved to [Los Angeles]. What do you miss most about Manchester?

I miss sharing moments with friends and family… And good Jamaican food.

Has your lifestyle changed since the move?

I still kinda do the same thing just in a warmer climate. I love being in the studio and creating, so that’s where you usually find me. LA living is new to me, but I’m getting use to it.

You have a cool yet unique taste in fashion. What inspires your outfits and was fashion important to you from an early age?

I’m usually inspired by the day so much goes into it but I don’t give much conscious thought when choosing what to wear as that bit comes natural.

I’m inspired by people around me who have good style, so I get a lot of my ideas from people who are close to me.  When I was younger I always watched out for fashion, but I mainly wore black as a youngin’. It wasn’t until I went college that I started to put together pieces to wear.

Can you tell us a bit about your songwriting process? How do you start and when do you know when a song is done?

The writing process is strange for me as I feel I’m constantly writing in my head. Every situation is a story; it just all depends on how you look at it . I usually start with a melody then attach words to it. But I like to switch it up on myself to keep it interesting and not to get comfortable. Sometimes, I might just write it all before melody.

What are you looking forward to the most on the upcoming tour?

Connecting with people who enjoy my music like I do. That feeling that people in the room are here to see you is what drives all performers.

Will you be previewing some new songs?

I’m going to be playing about four new songs on my tour. It’s a new start for me and I wanna give people new vibes.

Any closing thoughts?

Look out for my new record label called Grey Label. I’m going to be dropping some new music on it very soon.
